YAG CAPSULOTOMY
A YAG capsulotomy is the most commonly performed in-office procedure. The procedure is done in patients who have had previous cataract surgery and later develop a layer of scar tissue on the implanted intra-ocular lens (IOL). The scar tissue can cause blurry vision. Laser capsulotomy is necessary in about 10-20% of patients after cataract surgery to improve the vision.
The procedure requires dilation. Once the affected eye is dilated, the surgeon will numb the eye with topical anesthetic. The procedure is painless and takes about 2-3 minutes. The laser will polish the lens or clean off the scar tissue. Most of the time no post operative drops are required and there are no additional restrictions after the procedure.
